bookbinding

An embroidered book cover inspired by medieval illustrations. A large full moon shines in the top centre, and below it a circle of dancers revel. Embroidered ivy in colours of red, green and navy fill the corners, winding around a spider and a ram on the ground. Around the moon, stars surround an eagle and a bear. An encoded message is written around the border of the book, however I messed it up so unfortunately it can't be correctly decoded.

Here is a mostly-finished photo of the embroidered book cover which I mentioned in my journal! I handbound this book using french stitch bookbinding, then added a cardboard cover that was wrapped in felt and then the fabric.

I'm really proud of this gift! It was inspired by the 'Circle of the Moon' druid that my friend plays in our D&D campaign. A key part of this class is the druid ability to transform themselves into various animals.

I tried to embroider a coded manifesto of the class around the corners, however I messed it up sadly, and didn't realise until it was too late! Imperfection is a mark of anything handmade, though, and it still creates an ornamental border.
